11.05.2008 / A tourist in my own town
Sometimes, it’s good to go out with fresh eyes and visit familiar places as if you were seeing them for the first time.
Yesterday, I took my camera for a spin and went looking for a bit of that holiday feeling. First stop, the flea Lisbon market, Feira da Ladra, where I bought two stripy skirts and haggled on a cute little gold decorated dish for my photos. After a gorgeous octopus lunch on a terrace, I visited the Lisbon Pantheon (photos to come soon), had a coffee at the Graça belvedere and then walked to St.Georges Castle, to visit a crafts fair.
By the end of the afternoon, the view over the Lisbon was just perfect. The sky was adorned with fluffy white clouds and the sun was sweeping over the river and the buildings and rooftops with a pre-sunset golden light, reminding me of how much I really love Lisbon, and how glad I am to be back.
Unfortunately, by then my camera’s battery was long gone, but that only means I have to wait for another perfect sky and go back for photos. But not today.
Today is Sunday, it’s chilly, wet and grey out there, and I’m stuck within these four walls, watching reruns on telly and battling a serious case of designer’s block. And feeling miserable, of course. Who should I talk to about banning Sundays off the calendar for good?
